Our inaugural event was an absolute success! The evening began with a cocktail reception and silent auction with items ranging from Chef’s Table experiences at local restaurants to a diamond necklace up for bidding.

Our guests then transitioned into the Serendipity ballroom for a savory and delicious dinner. Custom food stations included dishes such as smoked pork shoulder on Guilford Mills white cheddar grits with tomato chive gastrique and sautéed chicken medallions with sundried tomato basil sausage, spring peas and baby heirloom carrots. Our stations were crafted and created by our own staff, as well as TCK alumni and students.

Following dinner, our executive chef, Vanessa Lanier, took to the stage to share her TCK journey. When she started the program in 2006 she strived only to create “a blueprint for my daughters to know there is possibility in life.” Through her dedication and commitment she not only succeeded, but flourished.

Chef Vanessa shares with guests how grateful she is to now serve in the very organization that gave her a fresh start. “Everyday when I come in I remind myself that I must be an extension of all that was given to me, the same kindness, the same compassion. And it is by Providence that I am here today. Everything that was given to me, I must pay forward to those who walk into this kitchen. It has been an honor, a privilege. It has changed my life.”

Our event was a success because of the support received through sponsors, volunteers and our fabulous event chairs. Ginger Hauser, Linda Sullivan, and honorary chair, Nan Griswold’s creative vision and exemplarily leadership were a vital asset to surpassing our goals for the evening, with over $65,000 raised in support of our mission.
